1978 and seventeen year old punk rockers Peter Bywaters andDel Strangefish decide to form a punk band and PETER ANDTHE TEST TUBE BABIES are born. After a couple ofrehearsals they make their first recording ‘Elvis Is Dead’ whichappears on the Vaultage ‘78 compilation of Brighton new wavebands. Radio 1 DJ John Peel loved the song instantly andproduced a John Peel session with the TEST TUBE BABIES.The success was breath taking and PETER AND THE TESTTUBE BABIES become one of the hottest unsigned bands inthe UK overnight.The first single ‘Banned From The Pubs’ followed fast, andfans and press freaked out in equal measure. From that momenteverything went crazy, sold out concert halls in England andEurope and their big success in the media pushed their debutalbum Pissed And Proud to #1 in the English independentcharts. Directly after that The Mating Sounds Of SouthAmerican Frogs was released – a must have for every recordcollection – and sold more than 100,000 copies, resulting ininvitations to perform from far and wide. THETEST TUBES BABIES have continued to play shows all overthe world and cemented their status as one of the most brilliantand funniest live bands in punk rock culture.A few bass players and drummers have served their time in theband, but the songwriters Peter & Del have always remainedthe foundation and together they wrote and recorded a long listof classic albums like Soberphobia, and the brilliantSupermodels.
